Alain Manceau

Researcher at the European Synchrotron Radiation Facility (ESRF) and Researcher Emeritus at the French National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS).

Research Emphasis

  • Structural and molecular forms of trace metal(loid)s in biological and environmental matter, including mercury (Hg) and rare-earth elements (REEs).
  • Relationships between elemental speciation and contaminant distribution, mobility, bioavailability, and detoxification.
  • Application of molecular environmental science to approaches that combine phytotechnology and biogeochemical reactions for the purpose of containing, removing, or degrading contaminants in soils, sediments, and waters.
  • Structure and surface reactivity of natural nanomaterials, with applications to biogeochemical cycling of elements.
