I am a PhD student at the Laboratoire de Géologie de Lyon, Terre, Planètes, Environnement at Ecole Normale de Lyon, working with Chloé Michaut and Stéphane Labrosse. I am developing models of lunar magma ocean crystallization in particular to understand the origin of the lunar dichotomy in crustal thickness.
One suggestion is that a degree-one convection settles in the solid cumulates before the end of the solidification of the lunar magma ocean. Because the solid cumulates are in contact and exchange material with the magma ocean, solid convection may indeed be facilitated and a degree-one pattern of convection could be favoured (Morison et al, 2019).
