Full Professor position at the Center for Theoretical Physics in Marseille

The Centre de Physique Théorique (CPT) has an opening for a permanent position as full professor in Nonlinear Dynamics at the University Aix-Marseille II, beginning fall 2008.
The current research activities of the Nonlinear Dynamics team at CPT essentially consist of two main themes:
- Hamiltonian dynamics with emphasis on control and applications to plasma physics, atomic physics, fluid dynamics. The team has an ongoing close collaboration with the Controlled Fusion Department in Cadarache, in the framework of the ITER program.
- Lattice/coupled dynamical systems, in particular the dynamics of genetic regulatory networks. The team is involved in a consortium with biologists, physicists and mathematicians based on campus.
The candidate will teach nonlinear dynamics, and will direct and coordinate the Master program on Fusion Sciences. Teaching in French is mandatory.
Applicants must have excellent communication skills, and a demonstrated potential for excellence in teaching and research.
Due to administrative rules, potential candidates must be "qualified" in order to apply. Qualification procedure is from September 11 to October 16, 2007.

THE SECOND WARSAW SCHOOL OF STATISTICAL PHYSICS http://www.fuw.edu.pl/~wssph

15-22 June 2007, Kazimierz on the Vistula river (Poland).

The school is primarily aimed at introducing young scientists to the most important areas of research in the vast field of statistical physics. To achieve this end we have invited distinguished scientists: Christian van den Broeck (Belgium), J. K. G. Dhont (Germany), James W. Dufty (US), Daan Frenkel (The Netherlands), Yves Pomeau Ecole Normale Supérieure (France) and Herbert Wagner (Germany) to give comprehensive, pedagogical and inspiring lectures bringing the state-of-the-art explanation of the theoretical ideas and currently studied topics. However, not only the PhD students and postgraduate researchers are expected as participants. The diversified program of the School should be also profitable to more experienced scientists who would like to get acquainted with a new field and contribute to discussions.

FLOW IN "GLASSY" SYSTEMS http://lpmcn.univ-lyon1.fr/houches2007/

5-9 February 2007, Centre de Physique des Houches, France

By gathering experts in the physics and rheology of glasses, gels, suspensions, foams, emulsions, granular materials, the objective of this workshop is to address the extent of \u201cuniversality\u201d of these systems and in particular: the possibility of thermodynamic or quasi thermodynamic descriptions in terms of effective temperature; the interaction between local events and the global organisation of the flow; the derivation of macroscopic constitutive equation from microscopic models. Will include invited lectures and poster sessions.
