Dust evolution in protoplanetary discs
Summary
The common denominator of my research interests is the formation of planets. Specifically, I study how small grains which originate from the interstellar medium can efficiently grow and form planet embryos. For this purpose, I have developed and used the Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics numerical method (SPH) to perform quantitative simulations of grains evolution in protoplanetary discs. This also brought me to interesting theoretical aspects of the SPH formalism. I have also derived analytical models of grains evolution in protoplanetary discs to extract the physics of the complex interplay between grain dynamics and growth (i.e. radial-drift, settling and turbulent stirring).
