We have an opening for a one-year post-doctoral position:
A Statistical Physics Approach To Abrupt Climate Changes: Application To Equatorial Superrotation
This project aims at studying bistability and phase transitions of the general circulation of the atmosphere by focusing on the possibility of an abrupt transition towards a state of strong eastward jet velocities at the equator, referred to as superrotation. The originality of the project is the combination of tools from statistical physics (large deviation theory, rare event algorithms) and numerical simulations using an idealized atmospheric GCM. The project will be supervised by Freddy Bouchet and myself.
